BUILDING CODE

Registered Members – Existing

All Registered Interior Designers (RIDs) are required by IDIBC to maintain current knowledge of the BC Building Code. In 2019, IDIBC changed its Professional Development policy to ensure that all existing RIDs complete a BC Building Code update seminar with every substantial BCBC update (ie. 2012, 2018, etc.).

RIDs have completed an IDIBC-hosted BC Building Code update seminar that includes an overview of 2018 updates to the BC Building Code. This two-hour seminar was completed by all RIDs prior to Dec. 31, 2021.

Registered Members – New

New Registered Members are not required to take the BC Building Code update seminar if they have completed the 36 hour course on the 2018 BC Building Code required as part of their membership application (see following note).

As of January 1, 2019, New RIDs are required to have completed an approximately 36 hour long BC Building Code course approved by IDIBC as part of their admission to IDIBC. The course must be taken within a six year period prior to application for RID membership. An official transcript is required as part of the admission process.

See Membership page for list of eligible courses.
