BC Building Code Update Seminar for RIDs: self-reporting details

All Registered Interior Designers (RIDs) are required by IDIBC to maintain current knowledge of the BC Building Code. In 2019, IDIBC changed its Professional Development policy to ensure that all existing RIDs complete a BC Building Code update seminar with every substantial BCBC update (ie. 2012, 2018, etc.).

RIDs must complete an IDIBC-approved BC Building Code update seminar that includes an overview of 2018 updates to the BC Building Code. This two-hour seminar must be completed by all RIDs prior to Dec. 31, 2021.

Documentation of seminar completion will be required as part of the 2022 membership renewal process.

New RIDs are not required to take the update seminar if they have completed the 36 hour course on the 2018 BC Building Code required as part of their membership application.

As of January 2021, the code update seminar has been offered three times:

  • May 31, 2019: “2018 BC Building Code Update” at IDIBC AGM. Presenter: Wendy Morrison Eng L, BCQ, GHL Consultants
  • Feb. 13, 2020: “VBBL – Practical Guide to Code Update for Interior Designers” at Buildex. Presenter: Sunny Ghataurah, President of AES Engineering
  • Dec. 3, 2020: “The Latest BCBC Updates for Interior Designers” – online webinar. Presenter: Sunny Ghataurah, President of AES Engineering

IDIBC will offer another online seminar in 2021. Date will be announced by email one to two months prior to seminar. Online registration will be available.
