Looking Back, Leading Forward:
A Message from Our President

As IDIBC marks 75 years of leadership in British Columbia, we honour our past while embracing a future of transformation. This milestone invites us to reflect on our journey and reaffirm our shared purpose: to advance interior design as a vital, regulated profession on par with architecture and engineering…

Dora Anderson, RID
President, IDIBC

RID is more than a designation—it’s a commitment to safe, qualified design.

RIDs are trained to address complex building codes, barrier-free design requirements, and life safety regulations. Our work goes far beyond aesthetics, we plan interior environments that support the physical and psychological well-being of occupants. We collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure that interior spaces are functional, sustainable, and compliant with building standards.

RIDs are accountable to a professional regulatory body, which means we must adhere to a code of ethics and maintain our credentials through ongoing education. This commitment ensures that the public can trust RIDs to deliver responsible, informed design solutions.

Whether we’re working on healthcare facilities, workplaces, schools, or residential projects, we bring a depth of knowledge and professionalism that safeguards the people who use these spaces every day.

As IDIBC marks 75 years, Interior design in BC is evolving.

The future of interior design in BC is one of recognition, responsibility — and, soon, regulation. As IDIBC marks 75 years, we continue to advance the profession toward its rightful place alongside other regulated design and engineering fields. This campaign invites everyone — from designers and policymakers to industry collaborators and the public — to understand the value of RID and its role in shaping safer, smarter, more sustainable spaces across the province.
