IDIBC’s Top Ten List for AUGUST 2016

Here are the top ten things you need to know about the interior design world in BC this month:

1. Bowlerama
Bowlerama kicked off the July long weekend this year as 5 enthusiastic teams bowled the night away in support of the Tom Park Bursary and raised over $1500.  Thank you to Odyssey Wallcoverings, Torlys Smart Floors, Commercial Electronics, Kartners Bathroom Accessories and Beatty Floors for your continued support of this wonderful event.

2. Summer Party
The newly formed YVR Design Community put on a fantastic event with their Mad Hatter Summer Party at the Salt building.  With over 200 people attending it was a great success and a wonderful time was had by all.  Thank you to the whole YVR Community Team for all your hard work.

3. Shine Awards
The IDIBC Shine awards celebrate the outstanding design achievements of BC’s professional interior design community.  With over 50 entrants this year there is an abundance of great design to be celebrated.  Please join us on September 23rd at the Vancouver Convention Centre for the most anticipated event of the year as IDIBC recognizes Creativity, Passion and Vision! 4. Volunteering
IDIBC is looking for volunteers.  Come out and support IDIBC, help to further the profession and get inspired working with fantastic people who share our passion for the work we do.  There are several position looking for occupants.  Time commitments are flexible and with a variety of volunteer positions to choose from we are sure to find the right fit for you and your interests.  Please contact Diana Kwan to learn more at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

5. IDS Vancouver
IDS Vancouver (formerly known as IDS West) takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from Thursday September 22nd to Sunday September 25th.  Register before September 2nd to take advantage of the Early Bird deadline for complimentary Miele Professional Trade Day registration.  Trade Day is September 23rd.

Then on September 24th check out the Social Sessions, a partnership between Poppytalk and IDS Vancouver. Three seminars are planned for Saturday September 24th in conjunction with IDS Vancouver 2016. The day will start with a session featuring Janel Laban, Executive Director of Apartment Therapy followed by a keynote by Justina Blakeney of the fantastically popular The Jungalow and an afternoon panel discussion on Embracing Video for Your Brand. 6. Share your Design Expertise
What’s Your Design Dilemma? is an exciting IDC program where our members volunteer their time to provide free, 15-minute consultations to the public at IDS Vancouver! As a volunteer you get free access to the show, gain new client leads, and highlight the scope of work that interior designers provide. 7. Student Charrette
The Annual IDIBC Student Charrette will take place on September 23rd at the IDS Vancouver Show.  Interior design students from various schools across BC will come together in teams to come up with creative solutions for an exciting, challenging and relevant design problem. Teams will share various skills and experience and compete for top prize. Presentations and judging take place from 3:10 to 4:00 with the winning group winning tickets to the Shine Awards that evening.  Watch for the Instagram hashtag #emergingIDIpros

9. Vancouver Heritage Foundation Online Survey
The Vancouver Heritage Foundation is currently reviewing the resources they offer on their website and are looking for input from professionals who work with heritage homes or would like to know more about heritage interior design.  They have developed a short survey that can be found here.

10. IIDA Northern Pacific Chapter INawards
The IIDA Northern Pacific Chapter thirteenth annual INawards, a juried competition for interior design excellence and innovation is now open for entries.  Interior designers, architects and industrial designers in Alaska, Idaho, Washington, Alberta and British Columbia, are eligible to submit interior design projects and/or products completed after January 1, 2014.  Submission Deadline is Friday, September 16th, 2016.
