There are several categories of membership in the Interior Designers Institute of BC (IDI). The most common are listed below.
Student
If you are a student studying interior design at a college or university that offers an interior design program that is recognized by IDI to meet the educational requirements to write the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam, you are eligible for a student membership. The following institutions in the Lower Mainland offer programs that meet that requirement:
- British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)
- Kwantlen University College
- Malaspina University College
The cost of an IDI student membership is $32 plus GST per year.
Pre-Professional
Pre-professional status is granted to students in their final semester or recent graduates of the above interior design programs that are recognized by IDI.
The cost of an IDI pre-professional membership is $69 plus GST per year.
Associate
Associate members are members who have a combination of 6 years of approved education and work experience, are eligible to write the NCIDQ exam or have not completed all aspects of the exam and are actively involved in the profession of interior design
The cost of an IDI associate membership is $201 plus GST per year.
Professional
Professional members are members who have successfully completed the NCIDQ exam and are actively involved in the field of interior design.
The cost of an IDI professional membership is $424 plus GST per year.
