The Client Services department at Simon Fraser University is seeking a continuing full-time Building Technologist at our Burnaby campus.

Position Outline: Meets with clients to discuss project needs. Provides initial estimates to the client regarding project feasibility, timelines, and budget. Prepares Preliminary Estimate for projects by: preparing design drawings in AutoCAD; and analyzing “As-Built” drawings and floor plans to determine the structural and building code implications of a project. Discusses with the client issues relating to compliance, procurement processes, building code requirements, university standards, facilities operational limits, and budget constraints. Discusses the level of involvement of external consultants and the nature of the consultants who might be retained. Creates the Project Charter which includes: detailed project designs, project scope, technical specifications, and updated budget estimates. Participates in the selection of contractors for projects; prepares tender documentation for bidding; evaluates the submitted bids; recommends contractors to Managers; and preparing contract documents to be signed off on by the Supervisor and contractor. Coordinates the construction phase of projects by: preparing and coordinating project timelines for contractors and in-house staff; conducting site visits to track progress and ensure work adheres to project specifications.
